It has been a long time since I decided to pursue a master degree in the U.S.
I suffered from many difficulties. In the course of preparing for TOEFL test, I became so unconfident and even after seven exams I did not make any breakthroughs. I’ve tried my best to do it, and I clearly feel that my English ability has improved a lot. Through practicing all the listening materials in TPO repeatedly, I can get 27 points in the listening part. In addition, my spoken English was improved by 7 points. Unfortunately, I still didn’t get a satisfactory score.
Prior to the failure, my worldview was built on elitism. I firmly contend that the world should give way to the strong. But now I’ve discovered that there are so many things which we humans cannot control. So I start to be forgiving and to understand other people better.
At the beginning of my sophomore year, my GPA was only about seventy. Almost everyone told to me that my GPA cannot reach 80. At that time, I thought that going to Boston University was a satisfactory result. But there was a voice inside my heart: just try it. Eventually I got a GPA of 83, not very high, but I worked hard for it.
As a pessimist, I never believe in any miracles. But I am also a person who does not give up and is willing to try everything. With 50% of the effort and 50% of luck, I was lucky enough at every turning point in my life.
There are so many people I want to thank for. My parents, they always support me and believe in me unconditionally. My friends, they encouraged me and thanks to them I never feel lonely. Such as Yumeng Yan, Manshan Lin, Chang Su, Ran Wang, Sixuan Shen, Mingwei Xu and so forth.
Now I realized that I cannot change my past, but I can improve the future. Once time is wasted, life is wasted. A determination has been made by myself: no longer depend on luck from now on.
